“A New Baby”

A sketch by Hilda Larson

My “better half”, Hilda, likes to sketch and draw and paint in oils and acrylic. There are many sketch pads filled with her art work. She is apt to whip out a pencil sketch while talking on the telephone. In her eyes it is only doodling. These doodles are destined to the waste basket. Quite often I find one of these wonderful sketches before it is destroyed and take a photo of it. Here is one that I photographed. I should put all of her works in a digital file.

Warm Greetings and Thank You for the informative pages.

I write from Sexsmith Alberta Canada, near Grande Prairie.

Most of my life of 73 years has been spent here, living with wildlife that thrills our souls, and entertains us daily. I am a member of NABS.

The bluebird population dropped dramatically in the 1980`s when canola was introduced as an oil seed. Frequent use of pesticides in the agricultural belt was directly associated with the disaster. We have a few birds left in ranching areas, and work hard to maintain populations there.

In 1951 our Trumpeterswan population dwindled and I developed a keen interest in rebuilding the numbers of nesting birds. This included raising injured birds in captivity that became our most cherished pets, watchdogs, and living to 18 years of age plus. Most of these were injured by hunters.

I enjoy photographing wildlife and this spring purchased two trail cameras that i am modifying. I use natural sounds such as a calf moose call that triggers when the camera senses activity. This gets the head up and makes for better images.

I will drop in to your web site for great pictures and news during the coming days.
    Keep up the interesting work.

    Respectfully
    Leslie Dahl

I see you draw pictures as nice as ever. I was just viewing Als pictures. Al doesn’t look like he has aged any in the last 13 years.

That digital file is a great idea! I still keep every “doodle” I get in letters. Some day I’m going to put together a collage of all of them. It will be wonderful. I’ll send you a picture when it is done!
